The HEPHA Anti-Theft System - ATS for short - makes HEPHA bikes like the Urban 8 Ultra practically #unstealable: It raises the anti-theft protection for e-bikes to a new level by combining digital surveillance, a tamper-proof immobilizer and an active alarm system with a human voice.

E-bike theft is one of the biggest barriers to purchase in urban areas. And for good reason: statistically, a bicycle is stolen in Germany about every two minutes. At the same time, the nationwide clearance rate is only about 10 %. That is why HEPHA is taking a fundamentally different approach with its anti-theft system: preventing theft rather than dealing with it after the fact.

The goal is not to address e-bike theft after the fact, but to make it as unattractive, risky, and economically pointless as possible from the outset. With the new ATS system, the HEPHA e-bike becomes a “hedgehog”: It cannot be stolen discreetly, cannot be put to practical use, and cannot be resold at a profit. The “cost” of theft thus rises so sharply that it is practically no longer worthwhile for perpetrators.

The technical foundation is provided by HEPHA WatchMode, a security feature in the HEPHA app that protects e-bikes while parked by monitoring movement, displaying alerts, and keeping the drive locked.

WatchMode Light is the entry point into digital theft protection. It monitors the e-bike when it is parked and is activated via the HEPHA app.

- The drive system remains active.
- A gyroscope sensor integrated into the motor detects movement.
- A warning message appears on the display at the first sign of movement.
- Visual warning signals follow any further movement.

After three unauthorized movements, a full digital lock is activated: all system components are deactivated, rendering the e-bike unusable. At the same time, the display shows a permanent and clear indication that the bike has been marked as stolen. This marking can only be removed by the rightful owner – via the app or by entering a PIN on the display. WatchMode thus solves a key problem in classic theft scenarios: stolen bikes are not recognizable as such to third parties. This effectively prevents resale or use. WatchMode Light will be available starting in May 2026 via a firmware and app update exclusively for HEPHA Bikes with a P110 motor.

The WatchMode Pro extends purely digital protection with physical and strategic components. The HEPHA ATS system, which is used in the Urban 8 Ultra , combines two levels of protection:
